How is ear wax removed?

Microsuction

Manual removal

Manual removal

Microsuction is one of the safest and most effective methods of ear wax removal. A small, medical-grade suction device is used to gently remove excess wax from the ear canal. The process is fast, precise, and doesn’t involve any liquids or irrigation.

Manual removal

Manual removal uses small, specialised instruments to gently remove ear wax. The clinician carefully extracts the wax from the ear canal, ensuring no damage is done to the ear.

Ear irrigation

Endoscope assisted removal

Endoscope assisted removal

Ear irrigation involves flushing the ear canal with warm water to soften and remove ear wax. The process is done using a gentle stream of water, which helps to dislodge the wax and clear the ear canal.

Ear irrigation is a much gentler form of ear syringing, which is no longer used.  Instead of using a syringe with a forceful stream of high pressure water, in ear irrigation, the clinician gently flushes the ear canal with a controlled pulse of water.

This technique uses an endoscope, which is a very small camera, to view the inside of the ear canal in high detail. This allows the clinician to precisely guide microsuction or other removal tools for optimal results. The endoscope ensures accurate visual guidance throughout the procedure, making it highly effective and safe.

At Clean Ear Clinic, we use state-of-the-art endoscopic equipment for high quality visualisation of your ear canal.

Our highly trained audiologists/hearing care clinicians have access to all of these ear wax removal techniques, and will select the most suitable method based on your individual needs. Whether it’s microsuction, ear irrigation, manual removal, or a combination of techniques, they will ensure that your treatment is both safe and effective. In some cases, your clinician may use a different technique for each ear if necessary, providing a personalised approach to ensure the best possible outcome. You can trust that we will use the most appropriate and gentle methods to give you the relief you need.
